WHY JANUARY IS PERFECT FOR YOUR NEXT EVENT
If 2020 had been a normal chapter in our lives, the end of the year would be reserved for prime-time events. Typically between the holidays and New Year’s Eve, there are more than enough reasons to host events and celebrations: people are generally in a good mood and feeling generous. But needless to say, 2020 didn’t exactly spark feelings of joy. But, it did bring out a renewed sense of togetherness. We looked out for each other more, we took more responsibility for our neighbors, and we worked together in a way we didn’t know was possible for a brighter and healthier future.
We think there’s plenty of reason to celebrate, even if it feels different this year. As people “return” from their quarantined vacations or simply recover from the over-eating of holiday meals, the experts at Wizard Studios feel that January is still prime real estate for setting 2021 right.
Set the Tone for a Better 2021
Your reliable networks of guests may have been incredibly busy trying to get as much work done as possible before the new year, and in a typical year, most had a fully packed schedule of events. There was a lot more competition between events, and it was far more likely that these guests had conflicts. In January, as we remain in “recovery” mode, your target guests will likely have pretty open schedules and be eager for an opportunity to reset the clock and prepare anew for 2021.
New Year’s Resolutions
While staying relevant to the times, it’s exceedingly important to make sure your event conforms to what makes January different from December. For example, in December you want to play into the holiday cheer. You may want to focus on the year winding down and why your event is the last chance your guests will have to donate, drink, network, etc. before the year is over. January is different - especially this January - and your event should reflect that. Most people have made New Year’s resolutions in a big way, and the earlier in the month your event is, the more likely people are to stick to them. Think about common resolutions and show your guests why your event will help them achieve those resolutions, or at the very least, not interfere with them.
Here are the top New Year’s resolutions we’re hearing in 2021:
Cook and Eat Healthier
Join a Club (Digitally) and Meet New People
Exercise
Explore New Hobbies
Drink Less / Quit Smoking
Plan a Vacation (When it Feels Safe to Do)
Volunteer
Take some time to brainstorm how your virtual, hybrid, or in-person event can take advantage of these. Get creative with your food and drink options to make guests feel like they’re not sabotaging their goals a week into the year. Find a way to incorporate a socially distant physical activity into your event. If your event has a charitable component, play that up.
