CREATIVITY IN 2021: HOW ONE PROJECT MANAGER DESCRIBES HIS PURPOSE
Sometimes it can be hard to put into words how the creative process of Wizard Studios finds its way forward. Behind the world-class events and projects Wizard Studios works on, there is a collection of artists, designers, and creative problem solvers, all working in tandem to create unparalleled solutions. We had a chance to sit down with our very own Geo Greene, Project Manager at Wizard Studios, to show us how the best in the business brings a client’s creative vision to life!
How Would You Describe Your Work?
“Most simply put, I am responsible for manifesting my clients’ creative vision,” Greene tells us. “By adopting the priorities, concerns and ultimate goals for their event, I act as the interpretive catalyst; devising and applying technical and logistical solutions to bring those intentions to life.” Being an interpretive catalyst is the perfect world for him, as Greene continuously accredits his deep and purposeful connection to his background in art, design, and community; and sees that as being the lifeline of the future of events.
How Did You Manifest Creativity in COVID?
“2020 was certainly a challenge for everyone,” Greene reflects, “but perhaps most significantly for those of us in the events production industry.” He pauses to speak candidly on this point: “Prohibiting ourselves from interacting physically strikes at the core of our mission. Luckily I was able to refocus my skills and energy into the virtual space, lending both technical and creative support to my network and our entertainment starved community; producing online interactive events, as well as helping others make that transition into the world of remote activation.” And he’s right: Wizard Studios successfully pivoted fully into the virtual events world, while also creating drive-through COVID testing sites early in the pandemic, and hybrid events when restrictions began to be lifted. It was their constant creative thinking that allowed their organization to not only survive the aftermath of COVID, but help other businesses do the same.
What Does it Take to Think Creatively?
Spirit, gusto, and drive. Greene successfully thinks like a creative because he embeds that type of fantastic wonderment into each and every element of his process. “Few things excite me more than creating a unique and inspirational experience,” he tells us smiling. “There is a magical moment when the voice of the universe flows through an artist’s work and touches their audience. It is timeless and defies description - it lives on in the heart, and in the soul; it inspires and motivates. We do what we do as production professionals in support of that moment, that communal connection with something greater than all of us. To play a part in the creation of that moment, in the enablement of a higher sense of purpose, a deeper sense of community - this is my core ambition.” And he’s certainly found his place, because he accredits his freedom to think this poetically to his team and work environment. “Wizard Studios supports this purpose; and not only allows, but encourages in each associate the pursuit of this mission, and in doing so is able to offer our partners a distinctly pure and unified focus. This extends beyond our provision of quality technology and expertise; it lives in the intent and motivation of our entire team to deliver experiential synergy.” Could it get any more artistically fulfilling than that?
To close out, Greene reminds us of his personal mission statement, allowing us all to breathe in a sense of hope for the future. “I am confident as rough as this past year and a half have been, our world will return with a renewed appreciation for community, and that interpersonal social interaction will take on a more valued role in our lives. I am enthusiastic and poised for what this means for our industry and our society; and I look forward most to playing an integral part in bringing people together, and building the bridges that carry our world to greater places.”
Poetic, diligent, and inspiring, Greene showcases just how capable and thorough Project Managers need to be to execute extraordinary events while celebrating humanity in every moment. In the aftermath of COVID, Greene’s job has taken on a new dimension of problem-solving, but he has not faltered in creating innovative solutions for both his clients and attendees and looks forward to an exciting year ahead for all.
